Canon has developed a plug-in that will allow video footage captured on one of its EOS DSLR digital stills cameras to be quickly and easily transferred into Final Cut Pro.

The plug-in will enable the ‘log and transfer’ of video footage from the 5D Mark II, the 7D and the EOS-1D Mark IV all of which offer 1080p HD video recording.

According to Canon it will convert footage to Apple’s ProRes 422 codec at approximately twice the speed of Apple’s standard conversion.

Users will also be able to add timecode, reel names and metadata to footage.

A free beta release of the ‘EOS MOVIE Plugin-E1 for Final Cut Pro’ will be available to download for testing and evaluation in March 2010.
