BT will base its new sport channels at the International Broadcast Centre at the Olympic Park in East London.

BT Sport will be one of the anchor tenants of the building, which is being run by iCity, a subsidiary of data centre company Infinity.

BT will build three TV studios, a control centre, 20 edit suites and an audience holding area in the 75,000 sq ft space.  

In a statement, BT said the new Olympic Park studios will be a production hub for all of the sports content that BT shows, with some programmes to be hosted from the studios.

iCity chief executive Gavin Poole said: “BT Sport’s decision demonstrates the momentum behind iCity and the progress we are making in fulfilling our commitment to deliver jobs, support enterprise and boost economic growth.”

BT Sport will show 38 live games a season from the Barclays Premier League for three years from August 2013.

The live coverage will be fronted by the BBC’s Formula 1 presenter Jake Humphrey.

The new channels will also show 69 live Aviva Premiership rugby union games.

BT has agreed the terms for a ten-year lease but it is subject to approval from the London Legacy Development Corporation Board.

BT intends to begin fitting out the facility from February 2013, with broadcasting to start August 2013.
