‘Entertaining and useful content for families’
BBC Studios & Studio AKA for YouTube
The combination of Hey Duggee and Joe Wicks proved to be an irresistible combination for the judges who were sucked in by the partnership which was designed to help pre-schoolers learn how to stay fit and healthy.
The 13 x 5-minute shorts, distributed via YouTube, featured groups of children interacting with Joe’s family-friendly workouts alongside characters from the CBeebies staple.
Commissioned via YouTube Originals Kids & Family initiative from BBC Studios’ Bristol-based fact-ent team and Studio AKA, the lockdown format clocked up more than 10m views on the video-sharing platform and also became the most-watched kids show of the year on iPlayer.
It was supported by lockdown-themed content including a ‘Handwashing Badge’ and ‘The Parenting Badge’, which has generated an additional 1.2m views.
One of the judges praised the “synergy of a beloved pre-school IP and YouTube talent combining to create entertaining and useful content for families.”
Another added that it was “really of its time” and made for perfect lockdown programming.

Alphablocks for BBC
The sister brands collided for the first time in the Making Friends episodes, allowing producers to broaden the scope of the educational pre-school show. The special, which included an expansion of the editorial and creative ambition, has notched up more than 300,000 BBC iPlayer views.
The Baby Club
Three Arrows Media, Tiny House Productions & CMP Productions for CBeebies
With new parents left isolated during lockdown, The Baby Club’s simple concept helped provide them with ideas and encouragement, coupled with stimulation for their 6-18 month olds. Rooted in academic research, with support from charitable and educational partners, the interactive series is proven to aid the development of very young children.
The Very Small Creatures
Aardman for Sky Kids
Creator Lucy Lizzard made her directorial debut on the Sky Kids format which follows five colour characters as they learn more about the world around them. Episode themes variously relate to toddler-relevant topics including relationships, teamwork and empathy, with inclusion a core component across the run. The use of graphical CGI emojis was a technical development which added a creative flourish to the comedy.
