‘The film is full of fresh perspectives and new information. Huge kudos to the production team’

BBC for BBC

With exclusive access to UN insiders-turned-whistleblowers, this “utterly compelling” feature-length film exposes wide-ranging abuses of power and corruption at the highest levels of the UN system.

It focuses on revealing the ingrained untouchability of the secretary general and his senior officials, who oversee a culture of silence and retaliate against anyone who speaks out against them.

Standout moments include mobile phone footage showing Swiss police entering a private home without a warrant or permission and attempting to take a whistleblower into custody, and a recording of the head of the UN internal oversight body being shut down while attempting to brief the secretary general about an instance of sexual abuse by a high-ranking UN official.

The judges praised the bravery of the team for tackling the subject head on and achieving their goal of exposing wrongdoing at every level of the UN.

“The whistleblowers involved showed courage to openly give details of systemic corruption and abuse across the organisation,” said one judge. “The film is full of fresh perspectives and new information.”

“It’s taken a long time for the corruption and illegal activities by UN officials and employees to be covered in shocking detail on TV,” said another. “Huge kudos to the production team.”
