‘The 1% Club is a brilliantly executed family entertainment show that became a genuine hit’
ITV’s shiny new Saturday night quiz format combines a simple premise with the quick wit and charm of host Lee Mack to unleash a “brilliantly executed” family entertainment show that quickly secured a second run.
Across each hour-long episode, 100 contestants are gradually whittled down as they compete to make it to the end and answer a question that only 1% of the country would get right, in the hopes of winning £100,000.
The judges praised the format’s inclusivity and ability for audiences to easily play along at home. Unlike other quiz shows, the playing field is levelled with questions based on logic rather than knowledge of trivia.
Coupled with ITV’s famous sense of scale and an impressive set, one judge called for the celebration of a new format that has proved to be “a genuine hit in the genre”.
The series became ITV’s biggest quiz show launch of 2022 in share terms, with its seventh episode consolidating to a whopping 5.1 million viewers and 34% share.
The cherry on top of the format is Mack. Hailed as “the perfect host” by one of our judges, his funny interactions with contestants during the show prompted another to say he delivered a “standout performance”.
