BBC News is using a mobile broadband satellite service from Stratos to broadcast live coverage of a record-breaking Amazon River kayak journey in aid of Sport Relief.

The Inmarsat BGAN X-Stream is covering Helen Skelton during  “Helen’s Amazing Amazon Adventure” in which the Blue Peter presenter attempts to kayak 2010 miles down the Amazon River.

The live 384 kbps video stream is being routed via the Stratos global IP network, StratosNexus, into BBC Television Center in London.

By the midway point of her challenge, Skelton had traveled three times further than the previous Guinness World Record for the longest solo journey by kayak.

Skelton hopes her efforts will inspire families across the UK to support Sport Relief.

BGAN X-Stream service allows a guaranteed minimum symmetrical video streaming rate of 384 kbps, with up to 450 kbps expected under optimal conditions.
