In the six-month pilot scheme, reporters for BBC Radio Lincolnshire used the pocket PC XDA phone as a professional recording device.
The device allows journalists to send high quality sound over a mobile phone network or from a wi-fi spot.
Reporters taking part in the trial believe they file 50% more content with the new devices, since they are able to spend more time newsgathering.
The phone can also send pictures for use on websites and record 'first break' video footage for television.
The system will now be rolled out to all BBC radio stations in the UK and was developed with Maastricht-based firm Technica del Arte.
