Endemol’s former acquisitions chief Helen Greatorex returns after stint in development

Banijay has appointed senior global development producer Helen Greatorex to its formats acquisitions chief role.

HELEN GREATOREX

Greatorex replaces Carlotta Rossi Spencer, who was unveiled as the super-indie’s inaugural head of branded content business development yesterday (12 December).

Continuing to report to global head of content development, James Townley, Greatorex will be Banijay’s dedicated exec in charge of group’s third-party format acquisitions. She previously held a similar role at Endemol Shine Group where she gained over six years’ experience in identifying and bringing in unscripted titles with global potential.

She was appointed as senior global development producer at Banijay in September 2021 and worked with several of the group’s key territories in supporting unscripted pipelines. Prior to this, she spent a year as a format manager across key super brands including Big Brother, Hunted and Temptation Island.

Greatorex said: “It’s been great to explore other areas of the business over the past few years, but I’m pleased to be back in the acquisitions hot seat. There is so much opportunity to drive even greater creativity through having a good grasp on what’s going on outside our walls, and I’m looking forward to bringing that knowledge into the group to further strengthen our own offering, and supplement our production pipeline with undiscovered IP.”

“Helen has long been an integral part of the team and it’s great to have her taking on the acquisition reins,” said Townley. “Her content know-how is extensive, and her ability to recognise an emerging hit is like no other, so I can’t think of anyone better placed to guide this area of the business.”

The appointment comes after Broadcast revealed Banijay’s European deal for hit Korean format The Genius Game, spearheaded by Survivor and Pointless indie Remarkable’s UK adaptation. Labels Mastiff Denmark and Mastiff Norway are also readying respective local versions of the gameshow following Banijay’s acquisition of the title from CJ ENM.
