Shows such as Neighbours have moved to Prime Video ahead of closure

Amazon is shutting down its free ad-supported streamer Freevee as the retail giant consolidates its services.

The development will see Freevee’s shows being moved into Prime Video and it is understood that Amazon MGM Studios content teams who had worked on Freevee Originals remain in the company working on Original programming for Prime Video.

No jobs are expected to be lost as a result of the move, which comes just under a year since Prime Video launched ads on its service.

Freevee shows, which range from the reboot of Australian soap Neighbours to Bosch: Legacy, have already been moved to Prime Video ahead of the closure. They will become available for free to non-Prime members.

“To deliver a simpler viewing experience for customers, we have decided to phase out Freevee branding,” an Amazon spokesperson said.

“There will be no change to the content available for Prime members, and a vast offering of free streaming content will still be accessible for non-Prime members, including select Originals from Amazon MGM Studios, a variety of licensed movies and series, and a broad library of FAST Channels – all available on Prime Video.”

Freevee was originally launched by IMDb TV five years ago and rebranded in 2022. It had been launched in the US, the UK, Germany and Austria.
