Broadcast kit hire firm Alias Smith and Singh is making plans for stereo 3D after spending £100k on new kit.

Alongside a batch of Sony EX3 camcorders, a Canon 7D DSLR camera, Prime Lenses, lighting kit from the likes of Arri and various radio mics, the company has also snapped up another Sony SRW5800 VTR (pictured) that will be used for 3D mastering work.

The first 3D project to use the recorder will be completed in association with central London post house Preditors.

Alias Smith and Singh is also planning to buy two 3D rigs before the year is out. A purchasing decision will be made at IBC in September.

Managing director Mike Smith said: “Due to 3D’s history of coming and going into fashion over the last 100 years and along with its recent upsurge, I thought this was something we might get involved in a couple of years time but before we knew it we are doing it.”
