Coalition for Change campaigner tops Edinburgh Television Festival poll

TV Mindset founder Adeel Amini, who has been working tirelessly on the pan-industry Coalition for Change, has been voted the Edinburgh Television Festival’s Industry Champion 2020.

Amini topped an industry poll conducted at last month’s festival and has been recognised for his “tireless work on behalf of freelancers in this challenging year”.

The winners of Edinburgh’s remaining awards will be announced on 18 November.

Amini is behind the Coalition for Change, a set of quarterly talks to help improve freelancer working conditions that all the major broadcasters have signed up to – news that was revealed at Edinburgh.

He is also the founder of TV Mindset, a group fighting for improved freelancer working conditions and pushing for a greater understanding of mental health and wellbeing issues.

Since the coronavirus-induced lockdown set in, rendering thousands of freelancers out of work, Amini has been working tirelessly to provide greater support.

He has been hosting wellness webinars alongside the likes of BBC content talent chief Donna Taberer, and more recently conducted a range of panel sessions on freelancer rights featuring BBC Studios’ Tom McDonald, Raw TV’s Joely Fether and Channel 4’s Danny Horan among others.

Prior to the lockdown, Amini opened up to Broadcast about his struggles with depression and anxiety, and how this has been exacerbated by working in the TV sector.
