The majority of Barcud Derwen is to close after suitable buyers could not be found for the Welsh facilities group and its assets.

Administrators Grant Thornton announced on Friday (18 June) that all Barcud Derwen’s businesses, with the exception of its outside broadcast company Omni, would be shut resulting in the loss of 80 jobs.

Barcud Derwen’s Caernarfon division was closed last week resulting in 30 redundancies.

Discussions are said to be ongoing regarding Omni. Broadcast understands that two offers are on the table.

In a statement, the administrators said that they had made concerted efforts to achieve a ‘going concern’ sale of the business and assets of the companies.

“Regrettably, this has not been possible,” said joint administrator Alistair Wardell.

The closure of the group’s activities has affected Barcud Derwen, Derwen, Barcud Derwen Scotland, Awen, Eclipse Creative and 422 (South)

A management buyout of certain parts of the group was discussed but, according to Broadcast sources, the team involved couldn’t raise enough capital in the available timeframe.
