422 South has made a short film for Hewlett Packard (HP) to demonstrate the power of the PC manufacturer's experimental rendering service Frame Factory. The Painter,directed by Andy Power, is about a long-abandoned robot that lives in a basement. Produced by Anne Farrell, the film was animated and rendered in Maya, deliberately exploiting the software's ability to create rich texture and lighting fx, while running on HP's utility computing system UDC.
