Alias Wavefront's 3D software Maya has won an Oscar for its 'significant and dominant impact on the motion-picture industry', according to the Academy, which has awarded it an Academy award of merit. Maya, an animation, modelling and rendering tool, won the award for being a 'robust and commercial vfx tool'. Camera and lens manufacturer Panavision also won the same award for its 'continuing development and innovation'.
