Pinewood has launched its overhauled TV studios, with the rebuilt galleries readied for HD and 5.1 productions.
The “multi-million pound” investment has seen new galleries equipped with a Sony MVS-7000X multi-format 3 ME vision mixer, Sony OLED monitors, Calrec Artemis Beam digital audio console with 64 multi-layer faders.
A Telex RTS talkback system, two DVS Venice 4200 four-channel video servers for ingest and playback and DVS SpycerBox Ultra storage server with 48Tb media storage have also been installed.
The TV One and TV Two studios also have “vastly increased” studio lighting infrastructure and new studio floors.
Pinewood broadcast director Paul Darbyshire said the investment was a “direct response” to client demand.
He said: “We need to be as flexible as possible and need to have a core infrastructure in place that gives us options – whether it’s on the number of cameras required, set turnaround, audio channels, data management or simply accommodation space.
“No two productions are the same and we need to respond to that.”
Darbyshire said he expects a BBC production to be the first to use the newly-equipped studios by the end of the month.
Pinewood said its Digital Content Services department had also created a secure digital solution to ingest, transfer, edit, store and deliver content.
“The current upgrade is finished but we have more [upgrade plans] in the pipeline,” said Darbyshire.
“It’s not something we can discuss yet, but there is a drive to keep developing the facilities.”
