Ross Appleton named general manager at newly launched streamer
Fox’s streaming service Tubi has snapped up ITV’s director of operations for streaming Ross Appleton to be the general manager of its new UK operation.
Appleton has spent 12 years at ITV, where he was the launch director for ITVX from 2021-2023, before his promotion to oversee all aspects of ITV’s streaming business.
Reporting to the managing director of Tubi’s International business David Salmon, he will be responsible for setting the commercial and content strategy, growing the ad-supported service’s UK team and scaling the service which officially launched in July.
Appleton, who held strategy roles at BT and Accenture before joining ITV, said: “Tubi has defined the AVoD category in North America, and we have a great opportunity to replicate that success here. I’m eager to build on the foundation of the recent UK launch, and firmly believe Tubi is in a strong position to become a mainstay in the UK media landscape.”
Salmon said: “Ross’ deep expertise in UK TV and streaming will enable us to accelerate our growth and ensure we are delivering a content experience that UK consumers love.”
Tubi has 81m monthly active users and is the most-watched free streaming service in the US and Canada after YouTube.
