Hot Shots 2022: Ameir Brown

Ameir Brown’s script for Jamaican drugs drama Tivoli, which made the Brit List of unproduced scripts in 2020, was “an extraordinary and intense piece of writing”, recalls Balloon development executive Danielle Scott-Haughton. When she read another of his scripts – Yallahs, an upbeat family sitcom – she sensed he could turn his hand to anything.

Joining the writers’ room on upcoming BBC/Netflix drama Champion, Brown was “everything you could ask for – interesting, interested, able to bring a seemingly limitless number of ideas to the table while being able to hear, support, critique and build upon the ideas of others,” says Scott-Haughton.

Brown has also graced the writers’ rooms of BBC1 thriller The Capture, Apple TV+’s Criminal Record and Disney+’s A Thousand Blows.
