The BBC is looking to appoint a post-production company to run an in-house facility for its factual department as it looks to boost the amount of post work carried out by third-party suppliers.
The tender comes ahead of the department’s move to New Broadcasting House.
From March, the BBC will no longer have an in-house post facility for factual programming in a BBC building.
The winner of the tender will work on approximately 70 hours of content a year - a third of the factual department’s post-production in London.
A spokesperson for the BBC said: “This tendering process will provide a cost-effective facility for BBC Factual post-production, to replace the current inhouse operation, ensuring we have the right level of resources to meet demand.”
Earlier this month, Halo Post’s contract to provide post for some BBC in-house factual productions was extended to mid-2016.
Halo will continue to work on around 80 hours of content a year.
Halo’s Portland Post operation, which was set up to service the contract, will vacate its 18-room Great Portland Street base next month. The premises will be converted into flats.
Portland Post will establish a similar-sized facility at DMR Film Ventures on Berners Street.
Portland Post’s BBC factual credits include The Sky at Night, Horizon and Human Universe (pictured).
