BBC exec Anna Mallett has been appointed chief executive of the broadcaster’s Studios and Post Production operation.

Mallett has been part of the BBC’s senior leadership team since 2006. She joins Studios and Post Production from her current position as controller of business strategy.

Mallett, who will start her new role in September, will report to BBC Studios and Post Production chairman John Tate. She replaces outgoing chief executive Mark Thomas, who is set to leave in April after four years with the facilities group.

Tate said: “It is Anna’s wealth of commercial experience and expertise, combined with her energy and vision which I believe will help drive BBC Studios and Post Production forward. I am looking forward to working with Anna to build a strong future for the business.”

Mallett said she was delighted to be joining BBC Studios and Post Production.

She said: “The company provides the UK media industry with a huge wealth of production talent, services and skills and I’m passionate about championing the business and establishing long term growth.”

In October last year, the BBC raised the prospect of third party investment in its studios and post-production operation.

BBC Studios and Post Production was created in 2009 when the BBC merged its studios and post production businesses to create the wholly-owned commercial subsidiary BBC Studios and Post Production.
